Seeking Help

You may feel anxious about approaching a Dr or talking to your family about your illness. You may even be unsure if you actually have an eating disorder. The best piece of advice that I can pass on, to both sufferers and to parents and friends, is to TALK. Family and friends are what make us who we are and how can they know your feelings unless you express them? Make an appointment to see a GP, a councillor, a Psychologist even a school nurse if you feel you can't speak to close ones yet.

I left speaking too late. I coiled inside myself, and became isolated from everything and everyone. Even in hospital it was months before I would engage in conversation. Fortunately now I can be open about any issues when I need to be.

Of course, there is the solution of BEAT if you feel that you aren't ready to speak face to face or need to talk at bizarre hours. Check out the Links page for more info about them and a link to their site and available number. There are professionals there who can provide a listening, sympathetic ear and professional advice.

The sooner you seek help, the sooner you can banish anorexia from your existence and start living the life you deserve.
